ANSI Z359 is the most comprehensive fall protection standard in the United States. It articulates best practices for a comprehensive, managed fall protection program including identification, evaluation, elimination, and control of fall hazards using PPE, training and retraining. Although the Z359 is a voluntary consensus standard, OSHA can, under the general duty clause, issue citations for non-compliance with many of its recommendations. For this reason, it is suggested that employers understand the implication of the standard on their workplace, and that is the purpose of this guide.
